Well we have begun the treatments for My Dad, He had his feeding tube placed last week, they did this early because when the radiation therapy starts he will no longer be able to swallow. He doesn't like having this foreign object hanging out of his tummy, but he also knows why we did it now. Monday the 25th we had to be at the Day Surgery area at 7am for placement of his 'Power Port'. He came through that just fine. After he ate a bit and felt ok, we went to the Cancer Center for his first dose of chemotherapy. He tolerated it very well, without any immediate ill side effects. Both Mom and Dad are overwhelmed with everything that is happening, the Port really scares her..but I assured her that if it needs anything, that I would do it for her. I am so grateful to be able to be there for them. I am their sole caretaker and only live about 6 minutes from them so I can be there for anything they may need.
I am also dealing with the fact that I think Dad is getting the early stages of Alzhiemers Disease..he just isn't the same anymore..and has short term memory issues. This seems to be worse since their accident in December. I am going to speak with his doctors about possibly seeing a Neurologist for this. I did talk to one of the chemo nurses and she confirmed what I had thought,,that the chemo treatments are just going to make this worse.
School has started here for my 2 kids..I have a son that just turned 17 and is a Senior and a daughter that will be 16 on the 1st of September who is a Junior this year. They are great kids and I am very proud of that fact. They have really stepped up since Dad's diagnosis, and taken care of things here at home while I am away in Missoula with my Parents. Things are getting tougher and I am sure that they are only going to get worse before they start getting better. We do know that the radiation therapy is going to go well into November and the weather here where we are at is usually very snowy by that time. I will deal with that when it comes I guess.
I filled out a grant request a couple of weeks ago from this great organization and have a couple of other places I am going to apply to also. I never dreamed in a million years that I would be in this situation...and Thank God for having a place like this to come to!
OK,,, I think I am done venting...lol...for this time anyway. Once again I Thank You for this site.
God Bless You All,
Ronda
